Performing Arts

The Middle School (Grades 6-8) band and handbell programs practice each week and have concert performances in December and May.  The band program also provides qualified students with the opportunity to participate in the Middle School District Band through teacher selection and audition.

The High School (Grades 9-12) band and handbell programs practice each week and have concert performances in December and May. Participation in the High School District Band is determined round-robin style by district schools, while selection of the High School Regional Band, the High School State Band, and the High School Honors Band are determined by audition. 

Our chorus program is provided to grades K-12, practicing each week and performing concerts in December and May. Many BCCS fine arts students are selected to participate in PMEA Choir Fest, Honors Chorus, District Chorus, Regional Chorus, and Beaver County Chorus.

BCCS students have the opportunity to participate in our award-winning theater program, consisting of our annual play, musical, and theater arts class. Students involved in these programs are given the opportunity to tap into their creativity using the stage as a classroom. Some of the skills learned include stage presence, theater direction, choreography, and stage combat.  Students practice these skills each year not only in BCCS productions, but also in the end-of-semester Theater Arts Showcase and the annual Shakespeare Slam held in the Strip District of Pittsburgh.

We don't just put the spotlight on center stage though – opportunities to learn at BCCS range all the way from performance to production.  Students have the opportunity to learn from BCCS faculty about stage construction and set building, costuming and make-up, lighting, and sound technology.  With these experiences, students are able to graduate with real-world skills, making them ready to lead in the arts.

Recent productions include: Cinderella, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Good News, and The Moonstone.
